IAA aims at fostering development of astronautics for peaceful purposes, recognizing individuals who have distinguished themselves in a branch of science or technology related to astronautics, and providing a program through which the membership can contribute to international endeavors and cooperation in the advancement of aerospace science, in cooperation with national science or engineering academies. IAA has developed a batch of academicians in China. Since 1992, CSA has begun to cooperate with IAA in academic field.

      In October 1992, CSA and IAA jointly held the first seminar of “Space Activities Economic Benefits”. Over 100 representatives from 10 countries participated in the seminar, 43 papers were exchanged and sound academic results were produced.

      In April 2001, CSA and IAA jointly held the second international space academic conference-Space Technology Innovation and Promotion of Economic Development in Shanghai. Over 150 leaders, experts and scholars from 10 countries participated in the conference and 50 papers were exchanged.

      Besides co-organizing international conference, CSA and IAA will cooperate on research of some academic subjects.
