Establishment and the First Meeting of the Organizing Committee of Flying Into Future----Space Exploration Innovation Contest 2006-2007 In Asia

The organizing committee of flying into future----space exploration innovation contest 2006-2007 in Asia was established on September 9, 2006. The first meeting of the organizing committee was held on the same day in Beijing. Following people attended the meeting: Mr. Art Dula, one of the co-chairs of the organizing committee and trustee of America Heinlein Prize Trust; Mr. Yang Junhua, executive committee member of the organizing committee and secretary general and vice president of Chinese Society of Astronautics; Dr. Leroy Chiao, advisor for the organizing committee and Heinlein Prize Trust Advisor; Mrs. Li Furong, Advisor for the organizing committee and Heinlein Prize Trust Advisor for Asia Region; Mrs. Gong Jinyu, member of the organizing committee and vice secretary general of Chinese Society of Astronautics; Mr. Narendra Bhandari, member of the organizing committee; Mr. Chong Yean Joo, member of the organizing committee; Mr. Daewoo Lee, member of the organizing committee; Dr. Hiroshi Yoshida, member of the organizing committee.

Mr. Xia Guohong, one the co-chairs and director of science & technology Commission of China Aerospace Science & Industry Corporation, Mr. Mauricio Moshe Guelman, member of the organizing committee, and Mr. Miau Jiun Jih,member of the organizing committee couldn’t attend the meeting because of urgent business.

Entrusted by Mr. Xia Guohong and on behalf of him, Mr. Yang Junhua presided over the meeting. Mr. Yang Junhua expressed many thanks to all members who traveled long distance to Beijing to attend the meeting. He announced the letter written by Mr. Xia Guohong to all members. In his letter, Mr. Xia Guohong said that he would like to work together with all members help young people realize their dream and foster successors for the space undertaking of mankind.

In the meeting, Mr. Art Dula gave a brief introduction of Heinlein Prize Trust; Dr. Leroy Chiao introduced education and international program of Heinlein Prize; Mrs. Li Furong reviewed 2004-2005 space contest in China; Mrs. Gong Jinyu gave an introduction of the progress of the 2006-2007 space contest in Aisa; Dr. Yoshida gave an introduction of promotion of the contest in space exhibition in Japan.

Members discussed seriously about the advertisement, organization, contest procedures, call and collection of contest works, first evaluation and presentation procedures of the contest and gave their suggestions.

Finally, Mr. Yang Junhua, on behalf of Mr. Xia Guohong, sincerely thanked all members and expressed that the contest will be a success with the joint effort of all members.

Mr. Art Dula said, the convening of the first meeting is a success itself. All participants of the contest are winners. Through the contest, they meet with each other, know and understand each other and share knowledge. That is Mr. Heinlein’s dream and the meaning of the contest.

The organizing committee will promote the contest further and organize more works.
